Cumbria Music Service as the lead organisation for Cumbria Music Education Hub presents a fabulous opportunity to hear wonderfully talented young musicians from Cumbria joining together to sing and play an eclectic mix of music at The Sands Centre on Monday July 9th.
The evening will feature The Cumbria Youth Orchestra (CYO) performing repertoire chosen from the new BBC Ten Pieces 3 arrangements, together with other compositions by the BBC's 10 pieces composers, under the baton of our new inspiring conductor Leon Reimer.
We'll also hear the County Windband and String Ensemble performing works by Copland and Purcell. The evening will also provide the opportunity to hear the newly formed County Youth Choir (CYC) lead by Charlotte Jackson.
Always committed to performing new works the CYO will be performing a new work by ex CYO member and now composer, Julian Winn. This will be conducted by ex CYO student now studying conducting, Jo Davies.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the debut performance of "The Traveller" song cycle. The Song Cycle will be the culmination of ideas from students who attended composition workshops held in Eden Schools and a residential composition weekend at Hawse End. The workshops were delivered by composer Andy Smith, assisted by members of Manchester Camerata and supported by Cumbria Music Hub. This 5 movement song cycle will be sung by primary and secondary school students from the Eden Valley with the CYC and accompanied by Andy Smith's orchestration of the cycle for the CYO and Young Composers. The work composed entirely by young Cumbrian composers, clearly displays the wealth of creative talent we have here in Cumbria
