Rueben and his brothers Alan and Jimmy will stride on to the stage at The Sands Centre this weekend to support the Mayor of Carlisle’s Charity Committee.
Rue & The Rockets came together before The Beatles had found Ringo and while Elvis was still in the army. The group’s first professional engagement was in 1960 when Rueben was 13, Alan 14 and Jimmy 16, and they have since played all over the country, supporting dozens of Top 10 acts. Over the years Rueben, Alan and Jimmy have shared a bill with The Animals, Dire Straits, Van Morrison, Billy Fury, Joe Cocker and many more.
Rue said "We started in the clubs and we never got out of the clubs. We like entertaining people, we’re the fun side of music, not the serious side and today’s audiences include the children and grandchildren of fans who watched us in the early days!”
The brothers are looking forward to the concert and raising money for the Mayor’s Charity Fund 2013/14, and they are especially keen to get everyone rocking in the aisles. "It’s our life and [we] enjoy every minute of it and hope the audience will help us support this event and have a great night!” Rueben Slater
